General Customs Department reported that import of bag from Vietnam in the first five months 2006 reached ¥2.73 billion ($24.5 million), posting year–on–year increase of 4.52 percent.
Exports of these goods to Japan witnessed sharp growth in recent years, worth ¥5.04 billion in entire 2005 ($45 million), up by 1.11 percent compared to 2004.
China is top exporter of the goods to Japan with a growth of 29.1 percent in January–May period 2006, accounting for 53.5 percent of entire imports turnover, much higher than market-share of 49 percent in same period 2005.
Bag categories demanded at this market are high–quality products, most of which are imported from Vietnam.
Among the types of bags exporting from Vietnam to Japan, categories No. 4202.92-000 quoted ¥10,344/product recorded 3 times higher than same from China, increasing the entire exports turnover by 2.44 percent, while No. 4202.92-000 recorded growth rate of 8.4 percent.
Japan has big demand on bag, estimated at $4 billion for entire 2006.
