Lingerie market goes great guns

Women in China use eight percent of their fashion budget on lingerie in a year as against 20 percent spent by French women, informed Shanghai Mode Lingerie, on the final day at Shanghai Exhibition Centre.

The underwear segment in China is transforming from a necessity to a fashion item in China. A model wearing designer underwear did catwalk during Shanghai International Fashionable Underwear Exposition.

General Manager of Eurovet, Bellon-Homps said that lingerie market in China is fast developing. She said that even though growth rate is meager eight percent, China has 503 million women population which is staggering. Lingerie market is currently rising at 20 percent and produces products worth 2 billion euros.

It is the third largest consumer of luxury items and in next ten years it is expected to touch Japan. Hebert said that China is a key player in fabric industry having huge potential for creation and consumption.

The exhibition has 25 famous international brands who firmly believe in the importance of Chinese markets along with markets like France and Italy.

Some of the biggest players of lingerie market have registered their presence along with newcomers like Aubade, Cacharel, Christian Lacroix, John Galliano, Eminence and Janine Robin.
