Workshop for awareness on Hallmark Jewellery inaugurated

To create awareness for hallmark jewellery amongst consumers, sellers and artisans, a workshop on 'Quality Improvement in Jewellery Making and BIS Hallmarking Scheme for Artisans' was inaugurated at MIT, Manipal here on Monday January 22.
The workshop was organised under the aegis of Manipal Institute of Jewellery Management and Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS). It was in response to a survey carried out in 16 cities of the country which revealed that 90 percent jewellers do not maintain purity of gold.
BIS Deputy General Manager, P Sengupta said that of jewellery firms which hold hallmark license, 50 percent are from south India.
The programme was presided over and inaugurated by Manipal University Vice-Chancellor, Dr R P Warrier and Gujjadi Narasimha Nayak of Swarna Jewellery Education Foundation was the Chief Guest.
