Proposal for setting up of 15 integrated leather parks in the country similar to the integrated textile parks has been put forward to the Centre by Council for Leather Exports (CLE), on the eve of India International Leather Fair 2007, scheduled to be held at Chennai Trade Centre from January 31 to February 3.
Mukhtarul Amin Chairman CLE said the Council has asked for Rs. 400 crore to develop these parks with a proposal to set up two design studios at Kanpur and Agra.
The ensuing leather fair will be the biggest ever covering 7300 square metres, with a range of products and services on display. A total of 390 companies from 21 nations will take part.
A trend pavilion, `India Inspired', to showcase investment opportunities has been jointly set up by the CLE along with Central Leather Research Institute and India Trade Promotion Organisation.
Union Minister for Communications and Information Technology Dayanidhi Maran will inaugurate the fair. Minister of State for Commerce Jairam Ramesh and Tamil Nadu Minister for Labour T.M. Anbarasan will participate.
Seminars and buyer-seller meets are being organised to coincide with the fair. A roundtable conference on the spring and summer 2008 trends is being organised by Modeurop.
