According to customs statistics, from January to October in 2007, China's luggage exports amounted to US $8.858 billion, $155 million higher than the annual exports of 2006(export volume of 2006 was $8.703 billion). It is the first time the exports of the first ten months overtopped the total export amount of the previous year.
Export amount grew 23.32 percent over the same time last year, growth pace continued to slow down, falling 0.39 percentage points from the increase of the first nine months. Luggage exports reached 6.38 billion, an increase of 20.43 percent on year, up 1.85 percent over the first nine months.
From January to October, leather-luggage export value reached $1.265 billion, accounting for 14.27 percent of the total export amount, an increase of 23.41 percent on year, but 3.5 percentage points lower than the increase of the first eight months.
Plastic luggage exports amounted to $7.261 billion, accounting for 82.02 percent of the total export value, up 23.04 percent on year, with the same increase to the first nine months.
Other material-luggage exports marked $333 million, accounting for 3.76 percent of the total exports, up 29.29 percent on year, 3.43 percent higher than the increase of the first eight months.
From January to October, exports to the US amounted to $2.375 billion, accounting for a proportion of 26.8 percent, an increase of 21.36 percent on year; the United States continues to be the largest market for China's luggage exports.
