The Spanish autonomous community of Catalonia’s government would be devising a strategic plan to consolidate and strengthen the fashion industry of the region, said Pere Torres, secretary of Business and Competitiveness of the Catalan government (La Generalitat) during the recently held Barcelona Fashion Summit 2014.

According to the Catalan government official, the region has around 2,000 enterprises operating in the fashion sector, employing around 30,000 people, engaged in manufacturing of clothing, accessories, footwear and more.

The Catalan government’s priority is to devise a strategic plan of action for developing different fields of the fashion industry, such as entrepreneurship, marketing, training, funding, etc., he added.

The summit, which was held parallel to the 13th edition of the 080 Barcelona Fashion event, saw participation from over 350 professionals and experts from leading domestic and international firms operating in the sector, who met under the same roof to discuss about the key emerging trends in the Catalan as well as Spanish fashion industry.

Organized by Consortium of Commerce, Fashion Craft i Catalunya (CCAM) of the Catalan government, and modaes.es, the summit held under the theme ‘Fashion Leadership: Key growth in a global environment’, saw experts discussing about the perception of Spanish fashion sector in the international market, the importance of advertising for the sector, the growth of the Spanish fashion industry and the challenges it is facing.

Several experts from leading apparel brands including Zara, Mango, Desigual and Cortefiel as well as representatives from the Business Association of Textile Trade and Accessories (ACOTEX) of Spain also participated in the summit.
