Indonesia is aiming to become a global hub of Muslim fashion by 2020, Mari Elka Pangestu, Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy said on the sidelines of Indonesian Creative Products Week (PPKI) in Batam, according to a report by Antara news agency.

The domestic Muslim fashion industry in Indonesia is very creative and it has a large potential market, the Minister said. She added that the local Muslim fashion industry was growing rapidly, which was a reason enough for the country to become a global hub of the fashion industry.

She sounded hopeful that every Indonesian province would be able to tap its potential and be inspired to develop the Muslim fashion industry.

The Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy has started organizing the Muslim fashion festival on an annual basis in Jakarta in order to support achieving the target of becoming a global hub of the Muslim fashion industry, Ms. Pangestu said.

The Indonesian Government had sponsored three local Muslim fashion designers, including Dian Pelangi, to participate in exhibitions in foreign countries, she added.

She informed that the Indonesian Muslim fashion design received a very good response at an exhibition in London this year.
