Gen Next designers selected for LFW Summer/Resort 2012

Lakmé Fashion Week, India's premier fashion and trade event, shortlisted and announced the names of designers participating in the Gen Next and young designer categories for LFW Summer/Resort edition slated from March 1 to March 6, 2012 in Mumbai. As a platform that nurtures new talent and presents innovations every season, Lakmé Fashion Week received a record number of applications. Some of the major initiatives this season are as follows:
As a tribute to celebrate and promote Indian textiles and craftsmanship, Lakmé Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2012 will dedicate a day solely to Indian textiles. All designers showcasing on the Indian Textile Day will promote the use of Indian textiles like Khadi, Jute, Chanderi, Mashru, Kota among many others as well as the use of traditional Indian workmanship. This day would be curated by veteran designer Krishna Mehta who herself is a keen believer in promoting the country's artisans and their work
Gen Next at Summer/Resort 2012:
LFW as a platform is known for launching some of the most popular names of the fashion industry and mentoring new talent. To keep up with the tradition of promoting Indian fashion, creativity and commerce to the domestic and international markets, this season the advisory board shortlisted 7 Gen Next designers to participate at LFW SR 2012
'The New Source':
As the main business hub of the country's major fashion and trade event, 'The Source' had undergone a change last season with an increase in the number of stalls. In continuation this season, the source will see a host of new activities lined up for all stakeholders as well as new marketing innovations that will help promote the platform
Talent Box – Preview Shows:
The Talent Box – a first time ever initiative of Lakmé Fashion Week, received an overwhelming response last season. This platform is set to go from strength to strength given the number of applications received to date.
Berlin Calling:
Lakmé Fashion Week's vision is to integrate India into the global fashion world. Taking ahead the initiative from last season, Lakme Fashion Week has selected Aneeth Arora and Kallol Datta to represent India at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week – Berlin, Autumn/Winter on January 21, 2012. The platform has undertaken all responsibility of ensuring that this opportunity is leveraged effectively.
The Lakmé Fashion Week Advisory Board comprises a panel of key stakeholders from the fashion fraternity such as educational institutions, buyers, media personalities and designers. The LFW advisory board members present at the screening included Nonita Kalra, Editor In Chief, ELLE; Sathya Saran; leading designers Anamika Khanna and Krishna Mehta; industry representatives Dr. Darlie O' Koshy, Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC), buyers Pradeep Hirani of Kimaya and Dr. Alka Nishar of Aza; Anjana Sharma, Director Fashion – IMGR.
Summer/Resort 2012 will see the returnof accessory stalwarts Eina Ahluwalia, Malini Agarwalla and Suhani Pittie who will be presenting unique shows on the runway. As a special guest, Gen Next mentor, Aki Narula, was also present to ensure that all the board member's inputs are carried forward whilst selecting the Gen Next designers.
