Last season it was the lyrical song “Fly Me to the Moon” by Frank Sinatra that inspired Narendra Kumar's men's wear line. This time for Lakmé Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2012 it was the super hit “Moves Like Jagger” by Maroon and Christina Aguilera that set the beat for his men's and women's wear line.
With the song a hit around the globe, Narendra's collection too journeyed through different countries in Asia, Europe, America and Africa with the silhouettes that moved from western modern to contemporary. The influence of the five continents was seen in the stylish garments as they appeared in quick succession on the runway.
Always a showman par excellence this time Narendra Kumar was the DJ of his show in a Mick Jagger wig, which was also the hair style for all the male models as they danced and bogeyed down the ramp to foot tapping music.
Working with a range of fabrics starting with chino, cotton, velvet and wool in spicy, wildly vibrant colours; the men's wear began with contrast sleeves and jacket body for the suits which were either in one or two button single breast silhouette. More excitement was added with checks for either the jackets or trousers, and there was the constant monogram on some of the jacket pockets.
The detailing was left to buttonholes, colour blocking, link buttons but it was the new super slim fit which made the suits eye catching. The latter part of the show was devoted to formal wear like lean tuxedos with satin shawl lapels or shimmering bundhgala jackets. The velvet jacket with gold buttons and the final gold brocade Jodhpur jacket were a great flamboyant end to the show.
The women's wear was inspired by the sartorial preferences of Bianca Jagger and Jerry Hall with a marked 70s look; so there were tangerine slim jackets, printed panelled silk tunic, a leopard print men's suit, some halter jumpsuits with front pleat detailing and ivory embroidered gown. Raising the tempo of the show to its climax, Narendra Kumar took his bow wearing a military style high colour jacket in DHL colours of yellow and red. Fun, fashion, frolic, music and lots of style - what more could one ask for?
Narendra Kumar never disappoints his fans and this fabulous show presented by DHL ended a great fashion filled day.
