Soup by Sougat Paul recreated the swinging era of the 1920s look at Lakmé Fashion Week. It was fun, frothy fashion from the design table of Sougat Paul as he presented his collection titled “The Flyaway Kites”. The roaring swinging 1920s look came to life on the catwalk, as models in dropped waist flapper dresses sashayed elegantly.
Dresses and gowns were inspired by the kites, colours, forms and panels. Colour blocking was cleverly achieved by Sougat with pastels at one end and some sun burnt bright hues at the other. He textured his fabrics to give an innovative feel and a more feisty touch to the garments.
Silk jersey, crepe, chiffon, georgette and Dupion silk gave the collection that nostalgic look of a bygone era of fashion and style. Opening the show with an ivory smocked shift, Sougat added black cutwork for a dress and then continued with simple silhouettes but ensured that each creation had some form of detailing which reflected the theme of the show.
The sea blue embroidered, patch work mini, the turquoise short sleeved multi textured maxi, the mauve and peach drop waist midi and the pink lean midi in chiffon with triangular detailing were feminine offerings.
To extend the 1920s look further, the designer had a pink shredded ruffled skirt; a turquoise laser cut skirt for a slender gown and brought in a flamboyant creation with streamers on the garment. An interesting addition was the brown acrylic harness, collar and belt which appeared on two garments adding a slight touch of glitter.
For fashion with a nostalgic touch of those stylish bygone days, “The Flyaway Kites” collection by Sougat Paul offered interesting fashion choices.
