The Ministry of Textiles, in partnership with the Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI), the apex body of fashion design in India, is promoting the Indian fashion industry.

One of the evidences of this initiative to promote fashion designing and upcoming designers will be visible at the forthcoming Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week (WIFW), where the FDCI and the Textiles Ministry will together present a catwalk featuring a variety of creations by the northeast designer Atsu. The ensembles in the show will highlight the subtlety and beauty of the northeast region’s textiles.

Other than the ramp show, there will be around four stalls, displaying crafts and accessories from various NE designers, at the fashion event. The Office of Development Commissioner for Handlooms (DC Handlooms), under the Ministry of Textiles is sponsoring the NE show.

The DC Handlooms is focusing on the northeast textile industry by providing marketing platforms and helping them in contemporising their textiles with design interventions. The office has previously hosted similar ramp shows in Chennai and Mussourie, where designs by Samant Chauhan, Manish Tripathi and other northeast designers were showcased.

Additionally, there will also be a stall by the Orissa state government exhibiting sarees designed by Rajesh Pratap Singh, Abraham and Thakore, Anjali Kalia and the New York-based Bibhu Mohapatra at the WIFW.

Apart from the collaborative shows at WIFW, the DC Handlooms and FDCI are also planning to host over 20 fashion shows across the country in the year 2013, where around 40 upcoming FDCI designers will showcase their talents.
