Nikhil provides blend of uber impact & minimalism at LFW

Inspired by the work of American painter, sculptor and illustrator Richard Artschwager, Nikhil Thampi’s Lakmé Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2013 collection called “Cruise 2013” had the perfect blend of uber impact and minimalism.

Using the artist’s fish motif to signify the fluid and structured irony of the painter, Nikhil embroidered it selectively for men’s and women’s wear.

Bringing into sharp focus was Nikhil’s fabric selection, which revolved around crêpe, net, cotton and Lycra that were skilfully highlighted with the designer’s favourite metallic touches. Working with a stark neutral colour card comprising white, nude and black, Nikhil brought in a dash of pop colour with yellow.

Construction moved from structured to fluid shapes as easy jumpsuits, sleek shift dresses, saris,  elegant gowns,  sexy swimwear, tailored jackets and pants gave men’s and women’s wear a definite fashion direction.

The crinkled men’s shirt teamed with waist coats, the exciting sharply constructed suits, the women’s pin tucked brown sheath and the ribbed gown with white embroidered net had a sleek elegant appeal.

Button-less jackets were clasped with gold metallic cummerbunds, while the pencil skirt was given a dashing touch with a flowing yellow cape. The tiny black fish embroidery appeared on men’s white jackets and women’s wear.

For night time drama, Nikhil offered black pants and corset bra with a net cape, a white bodysuit under a pleated sheer gown and finally a black and white jumpsuit with a theatrical long trail. For the ideal look that will turn heads “Cruise 2013” from Nikhil Thampi will make the jet setter’s journey an exciting memory.
