Think of acidic pastels, geometric motifs, psychedelic tessellations, slinky metallic petals, even a deck of cards and it all came together for a collection called “Alice on Acid” by Swapnil Shinde at Lakmé Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2013.

Creating fantasy wear which Swapnil is renowned for, it was a wonderland of whimsical fashion through which the designer took the audience.

There were classics from Swapnil’s studio, like the micro pelmet skirts, kaleidoscopic textured dresses, ultra fitted suitings, sexy high clinging hemlines and lots of glitter and glamour.

As always Swapnil’s opening three garments set the mood of the show – swirls of rexine was turned into rolls, spikes and cones as the major eye-catching interest in shades of blue, pink and purple covering tiny minis in houndstooth as the base fabric.

The hemlines remained micro mini with wide lapel collars or skirt detailing. But it was that rexine detailing in acid colours that appeared as corsets, armour like decoration and even a body plate over printed/checked minis.

On a more delicate note the shimmering neon rexine was cut into heart shapes and splashed on the bodice or shoulders.

For evening glamour Swapnil added soft fluid georgettes and crepe for long flared layered skirts but continued to cover them with the futuristic moulded look in green, pink and white.

Matching the very stunning collection were the colourful shoes and barrel shaped bags.

Almost fictional, like the costumes for a space age princess and very high on the style quotient, the garments left the audience breathless with the super outré line by the designer.

For the very modern New Age woman who wants to make a show stopping psychedelic entry in a room, then she has to pick a creation from “Alice on Acid” by Swapnil Shinde.
