Payal Singhal inspired by Islamic architecture’s intricate designs of filigree, jaali work and floral inlays called her collection “Taj” at Lakmé Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2013.

Aimed at the trend setting summer bride, Payal cleverly combined a melangé of styles with her western urban silhouettes that sported Swadeshi hand woven textiles.

The list of options the designer offered to the girl who dreams of having either a beach nuptial or a regal wedding; were varied. Short Anarkalis were teamed with luxurious salwars, while asymmetric tunic blouses were an innovative match for traditional saris, which were in katarva cotton, Banarasi or mulmul silks.

For the honeymoon wardrobe, Payal offered silk Sufi Falda pants that appeared on the runway with appealing structured cholis while the soft sensuous saris wafted in with free flowing kurtas. Embellishments had to be at centre stage for this collection as resham, silver and gold taar, pita kora, filigree, jaali and trellis patterns dazzled on the outfits.

Some of the highlights in the very ethnic collection were, the silk mul cropped anarkali worn with Banarasi cotton silk flared pants, the katarva layered hem kurta with jaali work, midnight blue Pakistani pyjamas, the dusk grey asymmetric kurta with zardozi embellishments matched to lime Patiala salwars and the lehenga/sari with mukaish work sporting velvet borders teamed with full sleeve choli.

The blue velvet sherwani choli with the red silk mul lehenga was a sexy addition and the tulle kurti with pita kora jaali lehenga were “must have” items for those "saat pheras".

For the more traditional bride Payal offered velvet or asymmetric kurta cholis which were matched to the three saris in kiwi lime, sunset yellow and cream.

Giving a modern twist to summer bridal wear, Payal Singhal presented the show stopper Aditi Rao Hydari star of Murder 3 in a fully encrusted wide red pants with a matching long sleeved choli and the tulle dupatta.

For the bride who wants to look like a queen on the most important day of her life, then the “Taj” collection by Payal Singhal will be her first choice.
