There was a lively interaction between the audience and the panel regarding combining Indian textiles to modern bodies and the success of Indian brands.
When asked about Indian textiles and silhouettes, Ritu Kumar explained that one of the reasons Indian textiles fall better as un-customized pieces is simply because they are made as unstitched garments which are then stitched in a way to conform more so to the grain line than one’s body form.
She also added that this, in the future could change to adapt pieces by perhaps merging hand spun and synthetic for a unique look.
Stating that it is also important to keep in mind the end usage and preserve this gift of textile, but also innovate with semi automatic means. The panelists concluded this fascinating workshop on Indian crafts and textiles and how they can be revived, brought to the ramp and then retailed successfully.
