An Amit Aggarwal fashion show is for the thinking woman who wants  awe inspiring fashion but with extreme design detailing. At Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2013, Amit Aggarwal’s collection seen in Mumbai for the first time, inspired by architectural structures was a mind-boggling line. Each garment was hand sewn with minute detailing of moulding, metal and drape in fine chiffon and jersey, which gave the creations, a sculpted construction that defied imagination.

With fantasy as the core of the collection it is the 3Ms – moulding, metallic and magic which made a breathtaking impact. Blending the three design sensibilities skillfully, the rigid structures combined with fragile transparency gave each garment a surreal appearance.

Working with fluting, pleating and draping, the end results were ensembles that had a space age, futuristic, opulence hard to describe. Lace, silk fringes, pearls and luxuriant fabrics like tulle, velvet, satin faced georgette along with cut metallic strips were unbelievable in form and construction; yet utterly feminine allowing a woman to make a strong individual fashion statement.

The amazingly constructed grey gown moulded to the body with metallic strips erupted in a fish-tail, while the shoulders and bodice were draped in fragile beaded lace and tulle.

Giving importance to the sari and moving it away from the traditional image, Amit gave it abstract draped touches. The pre-stitched version was worn with a multitude of beaded blouses or body suits. A maroon velvet sari with a black cape and gold detailing, another one probably inspired by a Bharat Natyam costume and a purple silk cape for a black creation were spell binding.

Amit’s version of the Lehenga or skirt was structured and tiered with a tiny bikini top and luxurious cape. A maroon sari with the pallav emerging from the beaded blouse hemline, draped skirt having black/ red beaded appliqué, blue/black/gold long-sleeved gown with metallic stripe detailing and the plunge “V” neck cape gown having an abstract motif, could only be described as ethereal fashion magic.

When six similarly crafted long black skirts with identical body suits appeared there was a dramatic hush in the audience.  The show came to an end with a floor length black cape heavily embroidered with a metallic front, and an exotic elaborately embellished maxi having an enticing net trail; that could have been Amit’s version of a wedding gown.

When it comes to fashion fantasy that turns women into “glamazons” with a fine edgy innovative appeal, it is Amit Aggarwal’s collection that will make a dramatic contribution.
