The Jamaica Business Development Centre (JBDC) will be hosting another in a series of sensitization sessions to generate awareness of the business opportunities that will arise out of the ICC Cricket World Cup (CWC) 2007, to be held in Jamaica.

This sensitization workshop, which is being hosted under the theme: 'Bowling for Business: Promoting Entrepreneurship Opportunities', will be held at the Old Marina in Portland on Thursday, May 18 beginning at 10 a.m. The workshop will target business interests in Portland and surrounding areas.

The JBDC, in its role as the Government agency responsible for sustainable development within the micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME) sector, will play a key role in facilitating entrepreneurs, who wish to take advantage of the economic opportunities as well as the CWC's Licensing and Merchandising Programme.

Speaking with JIS News, Executive Director of the JBDC, Harold Davis noted that the workshop would explore product development opportunities that might arise from the CWC and also position the various business enterprises to "take advantage of the huge inflow of potential customers" that this event would provide.

"This workshop is geared towards producers of gift and craft, fashion and apparel, home accessories, specialty food, persons in the business of providing hospitality and persons, who want to become exposed to business opportunities," he outlined.

The series of workshops will examine various issues related to business development, including intellectual property rights (the inappropriate use of marks and logos), licensing and merchandising, packaging, costing, financing and marketing.

Speakers will include representatives from Tourism Product Development Company (TPDCo); Jamaica Cricket 2007, the local organizing committee for ICC World Cup Cricket 2007; ICC Cricket World Cup 2007 and the JBDC.

Previous sessions were held in Kingston at the Jamaica Conference Centre, St. James at the Montego Bay Civic Centre and Manchester at the Golf View Hotel.
