Prada or Prado? Some shoppers can't tell the difference, but U.S. Customs agents are on the frontline, protecting consumers and brands.
Come see intellectual property rights enforcement first-hand and learn what the Department of Homeland Security is doing to protect brands at the American Apparel & Footwear Association's (AAFA) annual counterfeiting and intellectual property rights (IPR) conference, Knock It Off! Brands and the Counterfeiting Quandary.
The conference will open November 6, 2007 with a first-of-its-kind, private tour of the Customs and Border Protection's Container Examination Station at the Port of Long Beach in California.
“This behind-the-scenes view of the container examination station is an exclusive industry tour of the facility,” explained Kevin M. Burke, president and CEO, AAFA.
“We will observe on-going IPR screening and get an up-close look at the enforcement process. The guided tour kicks off two days of enlightening sessions, which will examine the broad spectrum of IPR in the apparel and footwear industries.”
The conference will also feature keynote speaker Ray Tai, head of intellectual property rights for Adidas. Adidas has secured the exclusive branded sportswear rights for the 2008 Olympics in China and has a full-time intellectual property lawyer in China.
As the company's intellectual property enforcer in Asia, Tai will provide insight into Adidas's IPR best practices, as well as itsmarketplace approach in a country with a tarnished IPR record.
