In anticipation of the formal introduction of the bi-partisan Affordable Footwear Act of 2007, the Affordable Footwear Initiative – a coalition of U.S. footwear businesses and their trade associations – unveiled a new website, EndTheShoeTax.org.
The new activist website is designed for the average American consumer and will be used to promote awareness and support for the Affordable Footwear Act of 2007, as well as being used as a vehicle for constituents to email their members of Congress regarding the Act.
“It is time to stomp out the shoe tax,” said Kevin M. Burke, president and CEO of the American Apparel & Footwear Association (AAFA).
“EndTheShoeTax.org empowers the average consumer to educate themselves about the Affordable Footwear Act of 2007 and then email Congress to demand an end to this hidden, regressive tax on the shoes hardworking American families buy for themselves and their children.”
In addition to the ability to email Congress, EndTheShoeTax.org offers detailed information about the existing shoe tax, the Affordable Footwear Act of 2007, letters of support from other organizations and links to Affordable Footwear Initiative media coverage.
The Affordable Footwear Act of 2007 is common-sense tax relief legislation to eliminate the import tariffs, collectively known as the shoe tax, on all lower- to moderately-priced footwear as well as all children's shoes, or about 60 percent of all shoes sold in the United States.
