Jharkhand State Khadi Gram Udyog has launched Johar, a new range of khadi designerwear for men and women.
The new range consisting of khadi shirts, saris and salwar-suits will be available at around 25 outlets of the State Khadi board, including the one in New Delhi, and even overseas.
Under the new label Johar, which means greetings in the State's local dialect, shirts have already been launched and are getting good response from consumers. For the purpose, the board has set up a production unit in Jamshedpur where over 500 shirts are being made every day.
The board will be soon launching Johar designerwear for women, said Mr. Jainandu, the Chairman of the board, which is one of the few profit-making khadi boards in the country.
The Union Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) had recently judged the board as the youngest, biggest and best in India. The board has also received a national award from President Pratibha Patil. These awards boosted our morale, says Mr. Jainandu.
He stated that there is boom in the apparel sector, particularly in designerwear, across the world. Hence, the board is exploring possibilities of exporting to Australia, Dubai, Singapore and the US, he added.
Speaking about tough competition in the world market, he said that their products will be competitive with respect to look, price and quality.
He further revealed that the board is hiring professional designers to make Johar outfits in tune with the latest fashion trends.
