Uralvagonzavod, one of the world’s leading makers of defence tanks and railway carriages, is planning to launch its own clothing line under the company’s brand name, Russian news agency RIA Novosti reported quoting Kommersant business daily.

Following in the footsteps of some major global military equipment manufacturers like Boeing and Caterpillar, Uralvagonzavod plans to start manufacturing and sale of apparel, according to the report.

Alexei Zharich, deputy director of Russia’s Urals-region based Uralvagonzavod, said the new clothing line would include T-shirts, jackets, and accessories for men, women and children.

The new line of clothing and accessories range has been created by Russian designer Alexei Maslov, who has experience of working on the branding of Russia Today, the state-funded television channel.

The tank maker would invest about US$ 600,000 on the new clothing line, which is aimed at promoting Uralvagonzavod as a brand, according to Kommersant.

The apparel and accessories products would be manufactured in Russian and Chinese factories, and would be sold at showrooms in Nizhny Tagil city in the Urals, as well as through its online store.
