46664 Fashion, a label inspired by Nelson Mandela, ex-President of South Africa, would be launched in the US and Canada on July 18, coinciding with the 94th birthday of the anti-apartheid icon.

Inspired by Mandela’s love for the written word, the latest collection unveiled by the label ahead of its international launch, includes chinos lined with a blue African print and floor length dresses in golden and vivid green colours.

Launch of the label in the US and Canada would allow the customers there to buy trousers, shirts and dresses with an African flavour.

There would also be blazers having a map of Africa imprinted in their lining or T-shirts with collars depicting the iconic number 46664, Mandela's Robben Island prison number.

A 1977 photograph of Mandela's cell on Robben Island, which was full of books, served as a source of inspiration for the designers of the collection.

The brand intends to take African and South African fashion to the world market, said menswear designer Chris Vogelpoel.
