Saks Inc declares preliminary June comparable store sales

Retailer Saks Incorporated announced that for the five weeks ended July 1, 2006 compared to the five weeks ended July 2, 2005, total Company comparable store sales increased 4.7 percent, and total sales decreased 43.8 percent.

By segment, comparable store sales increased 2.0 percent for SDSG and increased 5.3 percent for SFAE for the month. Sales below are in millions and represent sales from owned departments only.

Merchandise categories with the best sales performances for SDSG (Parisian) in June were dresses, children's apparel, intimate apparel, cosmetics, and men's sportswear.

Categories with the softest sales performances for SDSG (Parisian) in June were junior's apparel, men's furnishings, and women's moderate sportswear. Categories and businesses with the best sales performances for SFAE in June were women's and men's contemporary apparel, women's designer apparel, shoes, handbags, and Saks Direct.

Categories with the softest performances for SFAE in June were fashion jewelry, men's sportswear, and intimate apparel.

Saks Incorporated currently operates Saks Fifth Avenue Enterprises (SFAE), which consists of 54 Saks Fifth Avenue stores, 50 Saks Off 5th stores, and saks.com. The Company also operates 38 Parisian stores and 62 Club Libby Lu specialty stores. In January 2006, the Company announced it is exploring strategic alternatives for Parisian.
