Apparel retailer Aeropostale same store sales jump in June

Mall-based specialty retailer of casual and active apparel for young women and men, Aeropostale Inc announced that total net sales for the five-week period ended July 1, 2006 increased 22.7 percent to $105.8 million, compared to $86.2 million for the five-week period ended July 2, 2005. The company's comparable store sales increased 5.3 percent for the month, versus a comparable store sales increase of 2.0 percent in the year ago period.

Fiscal year to date, total net sales have increased 18.2 percent to $426.0 million, compared to $360.5 million in the year-ago period. Fiscal year to date, comparable store sales decreased 0.7 percent, versus a comparable store sales increase of 2.2 percent in the year-ago period.

Julian R. Geiger, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer said, "We are pleased with our results for the month, which were driven by increases in both our average unit retails and transactions. The reaction to our merchandise assortment continues to be positive and we are encouraged by our momentum as we head into the back to school selling season."
