Footwear powerhouse Nike has obtained professional contract with Netherlands Antilles top sprinter, Churandy Martina who had won the 100m and finished second at the South American Junior Championships in 2002, now ranked 19th and 24th respectively in the 100m and 200m on the IAAF Event World Rankings.
Many were surprised to see the sprinter sign so early given that there were no major championships vying for this season and that he didn't wait for another year when there could be more going on and possibly more money available.
Martina has personal bests of 10.04 and 20.27 - both achieved during collegiate competition this season and was on the right track of becoming one of the world's greatest.
