Sotheby's Jewellery sales this year have gone from strength to strength. In April, Sotheby's Hong Kong sold the most expensive jewel to have been auctioned anywhere this year: a rare fancy vivid pink diamond ring, weighing 10.04 carats, which fetched $6.3 million. In New York's April Magnificent Jewels sale, the historic Rojtman Diamond and the Golden Maharaja Diamond were both fiercely competed for and the sale realised $17.5 million against a pre sale estimate of $12.3/16.6million.
In May, Sotheby's Geneva Magnificent Jewels sale realised $24.2 million, the highest total for any auction house in that series. The sale was highlighted by an exquisite group of jewellery from the collection of Madame Claude Arpels, which Sotheby's was honoured to have sold in the Van Cleef and Arpels centenary year.
In October 2006 Sotheby's London will be hosting 'London Rocks', a unique event which will showcase the work of 17 highly acclaimed British Jewellery Designers who will be exhibiting and selling their collections during this event.
