Phillips-Van Heusen Corporation announced its name is to appear on a permanent plaque that commemorates the completion of the Ellis Island Ferry Building restoration. The completion was marked by a ribbon-cutting ceremony held on April 2, 2007.

The Ferry Building has reopened to the public after being closed for over 50 years. The restoration project was funded by a combination of federal, Hudson County and New Jersey state funds and private financing that included a $500,000 grant from PVH.

"Phillips-Van Heusen, in the name of its Arrow brand, is pleased to support the restoration of Ellis Island, a truly inspirational American icon," stated Emanuel Chirico, Chief Executive Officer of PVH. "We are particularly excited about the opportunity for an authentic American brand like Arrow to be linked in spirit and name to the national icon Ellis Island."

Mr. Chirico attended the ceremony along with notable figures, including former New Jersey Governor Christine Todd Whitman and US Senator Robert Menendez (D., NJ). Judy McAlpin, President of Save Ellis Island Inc. noted, "The restoration of the Ferry Building marks an important milestone because it is the gateway to the un-restored portion of Ellis Island. It is also significant because the restored Ferry Building will serve as the platform for new educational and programming opportunities for all who visit and want to learn about Ellis Island."

At the event, Save Ellis Island unveiled its firstexhibition in the restored Ferry Building, "Future in the Balance: Immigrants, Public Health and Ellis Island's Hospitals." The exhibit explains the history of Ellis Island's U.S. Public Health Service hospital from the perspectives of the immigrant patients, doctors, nurses, military personnel and support staff that populated the buildings between 1901 and 1954.

This exhibit will serve as the basis for educational and public programs that explore our country's view of immigration in the early twentieth century, including how health was used as a criterion for admission. The exhibit will be open to the public on a regular schedule as a guided tour beginning April 24th.
