Target Corp revealed plans to raise its presence in the US by 25 percent in next half decade, by unveiling atleast 100 stores per year till 2011.

As part of this venture, company will increase its stores from current 1,502 to 2000 and launch debut outlets in Alaska and Hawaii.

However, unlike its competitors, Target will concentrate in the US and not expand in other countries like Canada. Research statistics show that the US alone has the capability to house 3000 Target stores.

Meanwhile, company expressed interest in acquiring several Canadian stores that come on the market.

As for investment in overseas upcoming economies, Target is expected to take its time in laying and researching the potential countries.

Chairman and Chief Executive Robert Ulrich explained to the media, “In some of the major emerging economies such as India and China one could argue that it's much better to enter 5 years or 10 years down the road when that guest is becoming more affluent, better educated, because that is more in sync with our strategy."
