This Wednesday, during an auction at Christie's, a necklace of 68 rare natural pearls, created in 1850s for the Maharaja of Baroda, Khande Rao Gaekwad, was sold for nearly US $7.1 million.
The Baroda pearl necklace was purchased by an Asian private collector. This was more than double the world record price for any piece of natural pearl jewelry.
The exquisite two-strand necklace featured pearls as big as gumballs. The necklace was auctioned as part of Christie's "Magnificent Jewels" sale.
