Julie Tierney, who graduated Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) with a B.F.A. in fashion design in 2010, will be on the upcoming season of "Project Runway."

Tierney, from Grand Junction, Colorado, will be one of 20 designers on the show when it premieres 9 p.m. Thursday, July 28, on Lifetime Television. In the first show, the designers must make a case to the judges about why they should snag one of the 16 available spots for the season. Once they make it through that initial challenge, the 16 selected will leap into action.

Tierney was on the SCAD Equestrian team from 2008-10. She was also one of the students who represented SCAD at Fashion's Night Out 2010 in New York City. She created a one-of-a-kind outfit out of candy -- "a dynamic mingling of Poofy Pops and strawberry-banana sour belts" as she put it -- which was displayed in the windows of Dylan's Candy Bar.

"From her candy couture to her senior collection, Julie's signature style is always unique and fun," says Dean of Fashion Michael Fink. "We are all very proud and very excited to see her share her vision on 'Project Runway.'"

Tierney's work is influenced by her passion for snowboarding and skiing. "Also," she notes, "after becoming an equestrian, that started influencing my work." And why will she win? "I have a strong style that has a point of view. It makes sense, and is not like everything else. I'm a competitor and used to competing in a variety of things."
