LCF students from MDes International Fashion Production Management and BA (Hons) Fashion Design and Development courses have collaborated with Salvation Army Trading Co to create exclusive new designs from the charity’s donated items.

The students were supplied with 500kg of used clothing, and were tasked with upcycling the garments into catwalk-worthy pieces, paying particular attention to sustainable production methods. Nick Morton, who heads up the retail division at Salvation Army Trading Co commented:

The designs look fantastic and prove that there is real value in reusing or recycling unwanted clothing.

The finished pieces will be on display in the window of Salvation Army Trading Co’s 9 Princes Street store from the 12-16 November. By showcasing these 4 outfits in the central London store it is hoped that shoppers will stop and think about the many and varied ways we can stop textiles from becoming just landfill.

“At LCF we use fashion to address the challenges of ethical responsibility and sustainability. Working with The Salvation Army Trading Co on this project has been a great opportunity for our students to put this into practice.”
