Australian Forum for Textile Art (TAFTA) has returned to Kinross Wolaroi School this week.

Coordinator Jude Skeers said the forum provided an intensive five-day program for people who aim to be the best in their chosen field.

The forum is mainly for people with a degree of expertise, however this year we also have eight high school students with a keen interest in textiles, he said.

About 240 participants are taking part in 18 workshops with tutors from around the world, including Russia, Canada, France and the USA.

Forum brings international tutors who are best in their field, Skeers said.

Orange forum is one of two held in Australia each year and is attended mainly by people from NSW and Queensland. The other is held in Geelong.

People can see displays of work made during week and demonstrations such as Rod Byatt's Japanese silk braid.

An exhibition of wearable art will be on display in foyer, with hats by leading Australian theatrical milliner Jean Carroll, clothing by designers Kirry Toose, Ken Smith and Glenys Mann, and design students Bridie O'Leary of Melbourne and Rachel Routh of Sydney.

An exhibition of felt designs by Canberra Region Feltmakers will also be on display.

People will be able to purchase hand crafted items at Selling Bazaar, as well as fabrics, yarns, beads, silk, felt, wool, hand-made paper, dyes, ethnic textiles and jewellery from textile traders.
