Seven creative designers make their debut on the ramp with dazzling collections at tkhe opening show of Lakmé fashion week summer/resort 2012. Making their appearance in the Gen Next section of Lakmé Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2012, Shikha Grover and Vinita Adhikare presented a collection that featured a Metamorphosis inspired by the butterfly in its various stages. Their label ILK revealed their fashion sense in its ultimate creative mode. With a theme like Development and Transition, the duo used simple basic materials turning them into innovative garments. Aiming to present totally wearable apparel, the pair ensured there was a touch of style, bringing in contrasts with an edgy appeal.

Calling the collection “I Lose Myself”, the look moved from casual to more stylish in shades of white, grey and black followed by a touch of bright colours. With geometrics as the basis, the clothes were tailored and linear with organic silhouettes. Interesting capes sparkled over knotted dresses, while a creation with detailing on the back and shoulders with sheer drape stunningly revealed the butterfly inspiration.

Yarns of threads were cleverly tied, twisted and woven to create amazing silhouettes for asymmetric dresses, shorts, looped collars and draped midis. A very New Age collection which had eye popping visual appeal!

Prashant Chauhan
He called his collection “Daughters of Tibet” at Lakmé Fashion Week Summer/ Resort 2012. Inspired by Yangzom Brauen's book “Across Many Mountains”, Prashant Chauhan had the culture of the Tibetan region blended with contemporary touches. Experimenting with knitwear since his expertise is that genre; Prashant's collection was a visual treat as his inspiration of Tibetan attire was reflected in the garments through silhouettes.

Baubles of wool were bunched for a hood bolero worn with multi printed skirt. Intricate appliqués and embroidered paneled borders made up a dress and a rigid “A” line mini was replete with 3D flowers. The exotic head gear was stunning with one resembling the horns of a Tibetan yak to match the ornate garment.

For a stunning show stopping entry Prashant Chauhan's collection will take the wearer Across Many Mountains and make the Tibetan inspiration a fashion statement.

Manoj Kumar and Vinod Bhardwaj
The Banyan Tree was the inspiration for Manoj Kumar and Vinod Bhardwaj as they sent an eclectic collection onto the catwalk under their label “Antariksh” (which means limitless). With their line of convertible garments, the duo presented in a dramatic manner a range that will be a commercial hit. Made from low priced raw fabrics and with each garment having two options when it comes to wearing it, their theme “Infinity” fitted in perfectly with the tone of the collection. The interesting rope jacket completely hand woven with wood carvings and the draped handkerchief dress were stunners. Trousers too had an innovative look to complement the other garments.

With a colour palette that matched the Banyan Tree the layered clothes in shades of earthy green and brown with tie dyed effects and beautiful rope detailing had eye catching pieces like the pleated dress with leaf motif, the off shoulder woven jacket with self carved “U” shape, the asymmetrical square 20 paneled dress with hand woven shrug and belt which all came together to tell a wonderful eco friendly story of fashion and style.

Megha Garg
Creating an ethereal collection, Megha Garg presented the “Mystical Aura” which was a beautiful feminine offering for the coming season. Light with fluid floating drapes - many with multiple layers, Megha's garments reflected the varied colours seen in the auras of humans. Digital prints highlighted the designs to create the drama on fabrics like jersey and silk organza.

Soft as the evening breeze the layered gowns and dresses floated down the ramp with ombré effects in reds and green. Frayed edges added to the dream like look of the collection as panels swirled around the models. Strikingly feminine was the vertical frayed layered paneled gown and the sheer romantic dresses. The matching ruffled black wedges added to the look of the collection which remained long and lean at all times. For women who want garments that match their feminine personality “Mystical Aura” by Megha Garg will make the perfect addition to their wardrobes.
