It is a widely-known fact that the internationally famous fashion designer Miuccia Prada has been roped in to design costumes for the Australian film director Baz Luhrmann’s screen adaptation of the American novel 'The Great Gatsby'.

Now, the Milan-based designer has released four sketches of her costumes for the yet-to-be-released period movie, which is based on the Roaring Twenties of the post-World War-I United States.

Designed in association with the Australian costume designer Catherine Martin, the Italian label’s 40-piece collection for the movie has been inspired by the archived styles of Prada and its women’s clothing brand Miu Miu.

The sketches feature shimmering dresses in velvets and furs, accentuated with crystals, fringes and sequins in rich shades of emerald, jade, topaz and gold.

Authored by the popular American writer F Scott Fitzgerald, 'The Great Gatsby' is a story of a Yale graduate and World War I veteran named Nick Carraway who is fascinated with the extravagant life of his mysterious millionaire neighbour Jay Gatsby.

Due to be released on May 10, 2013 in the US, the Baz Luhrmann’s much-awaited screen adaptation of the novel stars Tobey Maguire, Leonardo DiCaprio and Carey Mulligan.
