Continued spending in hurricane affected states leads Cato's Jan sales gain 9%

During January, the Company opened 11 stores, relocated three stores and closed one store. New stores opened in Huntsville, AL (2 stores), Flowood, MS, North Charleston, SC, Memphis, TN, and Midland, New Boston, Rowlett, San Antonio, Sweetwater, and Wharton, TX.

The relocated stores are in Demopolis, AL, Corinth, MS, and Moncks Corner, SC,

The Company has two stores that remain closed from 2005 hurricanes.

These two stores are expected to remain closed for an indefinite period of time.

During the fourth quarter, the Company opened 30 stores, relocated five stores, and closed eight stores.

For the fiscal year ended January 28, 2006, the Company opened 82 stores, relocated 16 stores and closed 15 stores.

As of January 28, 2006, the Company operated 1,244 stores in 31 states, compared to 1,177 stores in 29 states as of January 29, 2005.
