Australian Wool Innovation Limited (AWI) exhibited the latest in Merino wool sportswear fabrics and garments at ISPO, the world's largest sportswear trade fair in Munich, Germany from January 28 to February 1.
AWI's presentation of 'Performance Merino' was seen to be one of the biggest news stories in sports textiles at ispo 06, despite being one of the oldest fibres in history.
Sportswear brands are being driven by consumer demand to use natural fibres. After years of being a synthetic dominated market, eco-friendly is the new focus as brands are shifting back to natural fibres.
AWI created a real buzz within this community which is hungry for new ideas and an edge in such a competitive environment.
AWI have been building relationships with key decision makers and industry drivers from brands such as Nike, Asics, Snowgum, Puma, Adidas, New Balance, VF Group and K2 who all attended the stand at ispo and showed a keen interest in the benefits of using Australian Merino wool.
"We have spent months assessing and researching what the market needs and how we can satisfy this demand to produce the range of performance Merino fabrics and garments we had on the stand," says Graham Stewart, General Manager of Textiles at AWI.
"We are thrilled at the enthusiastic response we have had at ispo which proves that Merino wool can compete in this market and offer a real option to traditional sportswear synthetics."
