Fashion retailer The Cato Corporation has reported sales for the four weeks ended February 25th 2006 of $64.2 million, a 1 percent decrease from sales of $64.6 million for the four week period ended February 26th 2005.

The same store sales for the month decreased 7 percent.

"February sales were unfavorably impacted by more inclement weather this year than last year," said John Cato, Chairman, President and CEO.

"Our inventory remains well positioned for spring," he said.

The company relocated two stores and closed two stores during February. The relocated stores are in Eden and Rockingham, NC. It operates 1,242 stores in 31 states, compared to 1,172 stores in 29 states as of February 26th 2005.

Two of the company's stores remain closed due to 2005 hurricanes and will remain closed indefinitely.

The Cato Corporation is a leading specialty retailer of value-priced women's fashion apparel operating two divisions, "Cato" and "It's Fashion!".
