Singapore seems to be the favourite destination for Chanel’s current creative director Karl Lagerfeld, who has not only debuted the French label’s latest pre-spring/summer 2014 collection but also previewed his short film based on the brand founder Coco Chanel in the Southeast Asian nation.

Staged at a former nutmeg plantation, the German designer’s latest Singaporean presentation included wide-leg trousers, lace playsuits, pleated silk dresses, dual-length skirts and a range of shimmery sequined eveningwear.

Featured at Raffles Hotel’s al-fresco courtyard, Lagerfeld-directed black and white film titled ‘Once Upon a Time…,’ starring English actress Keira Knightley, celebrates the opening of Chanel’s first shop in Deauville, France, nearly 100 years ago.

Established in 1909, Chanel is a privately-held company founded by the late French fashion designer Coco Chanel, who has been largely credited with popularizing the idea of a sportive, casual chic as the feminine standard in the post-World War I era.
