Shi Studio reveals textile fusion accessories with Asian touch

Textile fusion accessories creator Shi Studio with their earrings, pendants and belt buckles a perfect fusion of soft, sensuous silk and cool, reflective glass.

It's Canadian-made and Asian-inspired wearable art that won't break the bank.

Shi means 'poem' in Chinese, and like a good poem, Shi Studio tells a story. It's the creation of two Victoria-area women, accessories designer Honor Cienska and glass artist Cory Judge. They had a simple idea - to meld their artistic concepts into one, producing beautiful handcrafted jewelry from luscious Chinese silk brocades, silver and glass.

That was one year ago. Since then, the company has grown dramatically. It's become a full-time job for Cienska and Judge, and they employ a number of other local female artisans. Shi Studio pieces are now available in nearly 30 stores right across Canada, and you can find the gals showing off their stuff at local arts and craft fairs.

The current Shi Studio product line includes earrings, pendants and belts (from $28 and up). Customers can choose what shape and size they'd like, even add in a silver chain or leather belt to complete their favourite look.

Choosing the fabric is the most fun, especially for those shopaholics who can never find what they're looking for. There is no lack of choice at Shi Studio. From delicate cherry blossoms to the majestic dragon, all in a kaleidoscope of colour, there are more than a hundred different silk textiles.
