Monopolies and Restrictive Trade Practices Commission (MRTPC) has rejected fashion designer's claim to postpone the upcoming Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week organised by Fashion Design Council of India.
Justifying the rejection of petition filed by a Mumbai- based fashion designer, Narendra Kumar Ahmed, MRTPC stated that restrictions imposed by FDCI on its members participating in other fashion events like Lakme India Fashion Week should not be considered as 'restrictive practices'.
Justice B K Rathi, Chairman, MRTPC further explained, it was not restriction of practice but promotion of competition to provide all designers fair and equal chance.
By accepting FDCI's claim, Rathi appreciated the decision to give preference to those, who have not got a chance in any other event.
He also said that FDCI were creating competition and not curtailing it by adopting restrictive trade practices.
