Internationally-celebrated Italian-born French design veteran Pierre Cardin returned to the catwalk after a long hiatus of almost two decades.

The 91-year-old designer, who last staged a regular runway parade in the year 1996, recently hosted a show titled 'Maxim's de Paris', featuring his signature geometry and futurism infused couture pieces for both men and women, in Paris.

Free of uncomfortable waist-cinching fits, buttons or any other tricky detailing, the womenswear pieces included leather appliqué detailed tuxedo pantsuits, cape sleeved long shimmering black gowns, and jewel-toned satin and pastel-hued organza dresses accented with oversized bows, ruffles and blooms.

For men, the partywear range featured 1980s style disco velvet jackets and trouser sets, sequined tunics and vibrantly coloured roomy satin pants.

Creator of the world-famous bubble dress in 1954, Pierre Cardin is considered as one of the oldest couturiers of the world, and is still actively involved in his fashion house.
