Make no mistake: this is no old school leather stomper. Strategically placed mesh on the upper and tongue keeps weight reasonable and prevents the shoe from becoming oven-hot. Still, the Jannu's hiking-boot DNA means excellent support and stability for long days on rough terrain.
The durable lugs on the Vibram sole shouldn't wear down after a season or two of use, as can happen with some of the stickier rubber out there, and the toothy tread bits hard on loose dirt and rock. On steep, slippery descents, we especially liked sole's anti-skid braking.
Jannu Lady: "Get the body and sole of a traditional boot in a stylish, wear-anywhere package. The upper is more leather than mesh, for superior support and long life, and glove leather on the inside molds to your foot...cushioned heel took the sting out of hardpack trail and long miles.."
Other LOWA accolades in Outside Magazine's Buyer's Guide: Centurio Sports Sandal: "During portages, the Centurio's Vibram sole stuck to slick rocks. Soft neoprene lining feels great against bare skin and protects your feet topside."
Our new generation travel shoe, the Scirocco also made the grade: "Fleet-footed travel demands a multi-tasker like LOWA's Scirocco - a lightweight, multi-use shoe that grips trail and cobblestone alike - and won't attracting withering looks from the concierge..."
