In last January's edition 10557 visitors were registered at the Expo Riva Shuh, of which 65.73 percent were foreigners and 34.27 percent Italians.

At the top of the list were businessmen-salesmen from Germany, Great Britain, Spain, France, Greece, Holland, Poland, Belgium, Denmark and Austria, followed by many non-European countries like the United States, Canada, the East in general.

The last available data indicate a worldwide production of 12 billion 500 million pairs (almost double compared to 1982), with an increase connected to Asian companies, which have reached 9 billion 500 million pairs.

South America stabilizes at 860 million pairs, Eastern Europe drops to 300 million, while Western Europe slows to 800 million pairs.

Among the countries that made giant steps, occupying increasingly important market shares, we see China with 6 billion 950 million pairs.

A figure that has shaken and thrown into crisis the production apparatus of many nations that for a long time were market leaders of the manufacturing-quality list.

Behind this locomotive, albeit well behind, we find India (750 million) and Indonesia, which reaches a quota of 509 million pairs.

On the defensive we find Brazil, stabilizing at 640 million pairs; on the offensive Vietnam with 360 million pairs. The ex URSS and the United States appear to be in a manufacturing crisis, having collapsed to 59 million pairs. Japan too marks a regression, falling to 110 million pairs.

Things are not better in Western Europe, where we find countries with a long tradition in footwear: Spain (198 million pairs), Portugal (100 m. pairs), Italy (335 m.), France (76 m.), Great Britain (28 m.) are increasingly losing market shares.
