Verdict Research announces that fashion retailer Morgan Retail has collapsed into administration with the loss of 600 jobs. The 19 stores and 47 department store concessions are likely to close.

New Look has announced plans to open 30 stores in the Middle East. The company has signed a franchise agreement with Landmark International, which already operates British brands in the region, including Reiss.

New figures by Verdict Research have found that Primark is set to overtake Debenhams and New Look as Britain's fourth biggest womenswear retailer.

Topshop will open its first store in Moscow in October. The chain has amassed 88 franchises in 29 countries worldwide with a second Moscow store already planned.

Allied Carpets has recorded losses for the second year running. The company made an operating loss of £3.4mn in the twelve months to 31 December 2005, compared with a £4mn loss in 2004.

Blockbuster has been put up for sale by its American parent as part of a multi-million pound retreat from Europe. Citigroup has been appointed to handle the deal, which is expected to raise £300mn.

B&Q will introduce a kids club and interior design classes for women at its 51 stores in China in an effort to teach home improvement to Chinese customers.

Dobbies Garden Centres said it would continue to expand into the English heartlands following the release ofpositive first-half results. Pre-tax profits rose 3.6% to £1.8mn in the period on sales of £29.4mn.
