The Nuance Group further expands its Swedish network by adding the retail offer at Malmö-Sturup Airport to its portfolio. Nuance has taken over the existing shop as of January 2006 and has now completed extensive refurbishments resulting in a 100 percent space increase.
With the addition of Malmö, Nuance now operates retail outlets at 14 Swedish airports including Stockholm Arlanda. Malmö-Sturup is Sweden's third largest airport and in 2005 served 1.8 million passengers.
For the future, rapid growth is expected due to the increasing offer by low-cost airlines, which today account for 30 percent of all traffic. The 5-year retail concession for the airport's duty-free and duty-paid sales is valid through 31 December 2010.
Nuance started operating at Malmö in January 2006. Following extensive refurbishments, the new shop opened on July 1, covering a total of 455 sqm, a 100 percent increase on the old shop. As an additional feature, passenger flows for both domestic and international flights will be directly passing through the main shop.
The product assortment comprises perfumes & cosmetics, liquor, tobacco, confectionery, sunglasses and local souvenirs depicting the region of Skåne, where Malmö is located. The shop aims to provide the predominantly Swedish customer base with the promise of affordable luxury.
Thomas Friberg, General Manager, The Nuance Group Sweden, says: “We are delighted to add Malmö to our portfolio. Having operated in Sweden for over three years and through an intense dialogue with the Swedish Airport Authority, we have gained a thorough understanding of the local customers.”
