Roppongi Hills, had became a landmark in the area of Roppongi was at that point in time, ablet to give the area a new image, completely different from its original image of being a night-life area.
Now, Roppongi is popular for having a residential area for celebrities and held some of the most prominent businesses in the office building.
That was, until Omotesando Hills was built in February of 2006. The opening of this new shopping area created a flow of visitors that enjoyed the rest of the area and brought up the land price of Omotesando area rapidly.
The shopping complex was built after what had been one of the oldest apartment building in Tokyo. The building is of 6 floors above ground and 6 below ground.
The spiral slope built in the main building along with the main large staircase was creations of Tadao Ando, and just the architecture of the building created excitement among people.
It holds 97 stores in total including big shots like Dloce and Gabbana, Gieves & Hawkes, Dunhil and many others. Although each store space is rather small, and the building built so that consumers have to walk around, the concept of the building is new and interesting enough to bring consumers and visitors visiting beyond the original prediction.
They have announced that since the opening of the store in February, Omotesando Hills have welcomed 6.5 million visitors. On average, they have 30,000 visitors on weekdays and 550,000 on weekends.
