In the recently concluded Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council's (GJEPC) Annual General Meeting, Mr. Sanjay Kothari was elected as Chairman of the Council taking over the responsibility from Mr. Bakul R. Mehta. Mr. Kothari has been elected as Chairman for the second time; prior to this he has served council as Chairman from the year 2000-2004.
During this AGM, Mr. Vasant Mehta was elected as Vice Chairman of the Council. He has taken over from Mr. Navin D. Mehta. Mr. Vasant Mehta's experience as 'Vice President' International Diamond Manufacturers Association (IDMA) will prove to be an added advantage for the functioning of the Council.
Both the Chairman and Vice Chairman will assume office till September 2008.
Commenting on his new responsibility, Mr. Kothari mentioned that, “It is an honour to be elected as Chairman for second time and this could only be possible with the unstinted support of trade and Council members.”
Elucidating further Mr. Kothari added, “I have taken over as Chairman of the Council with a set agenda which would be to serve the members, achieve growth of this Industry and provide avenues for increased employment.”
“This could only be achieved through extensive promotion of the Gem & Jewellery Industry as a whole be it loose, cut & polished diamonds, plain & studded Jewellery or colour gemstones. The other areas of my focus would be concentrating on sourcing of rough diamonds and colour gemstones, bringingthe Heat treatment project for colour Gemstones in India similar to Bangkok and finally, exploring new markets”
