Rica Lewis, the French manufacturer, created blue jeans from 100 percent 'fair trade cotton'. These jeans made their debut in Europe.
The fair trade foundation aims to support small farmers in developing countries by buying their products at a fixed price and provides them a better living even though there are fluctuations in global markets.
Cotton brings about 30 percent of export earnings for West and Central Africa. At least 10 million people depend directly on cotton production.
Max Havelaar, a nonprofit organization awards quality label to products that have been produced according to principles of fair trade in Europe. Both Rica Lewis and Max Haveler contacted growers in West Africa, and offer them a minimum price for their cotton.
The Rica Lewis men's jeans come in four stonewashed shades.
The women's models, a skinny jean and a boot cut, created in two shades. They sell in superstores in Spain, Italy, Belgium and France.
