With a view to increasing job opportunities and providing value-addition to local jewellery sector, Gems and Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) has been instructed by Government to develop new areas in India where rough diamonds can be found.
Jairam Ramesh, Minister for Commerce and Industry, wants that GJEPC should explore Orissa and other backward states because large number of labourers from Orissa work in Surat's diamond cutting and polishing units.
