Spanish retail chain Zara to open store at Natick Mall

This year the Spanish retail chain Zara, owned by Europe's largest clothing retailer Inditex SA, is planning to open its first Massachusetts store at the Natick Mall with an area of 9,000-square-foot in September and has been searching for a location at the Newbury Street in Boston.

Company shelves women's, men's and children's clothing, shoes and accessories.

Zara operates in 63 countries with a chain of 990 stores and has its own design-to-distribution capacity in Spain. 20,000 different items were introduced in its stores last year.

Zara has 24 stores in the US and is planning to open around 10 new ones every year with a target of 50 by 2009.

The Inditex SA operates with eight brands including Zara and with gross revenue of $8.5 billion and Zara accounted for about 66 percent of those sales.
